Laura Dawson, Executive Director, Future Borders Coalition
As Executive Director of Future Borders Coalition, Laura Dawson works with a binational coalition of government and industry leaders in order to build better borders for travel and trade. She is one of the leading public advocates for strengthened Canada-U.S. relations. In 2024, Dawson was listed as one of Canada’s Top 50 Foreign Policy Influencers of 2024 by the Hill Times.
Prior to her appointment to FBC, Dawson led a think tank at Amazon Web Services focused on public sector digital transformation; she was director of the Canada Institute at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.; senior advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Canada; and founder of Dawson Strategic consulting group.
Dawson has taught at both Carleton University and McGill University. She serves as a board member of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and is a member of the Treasury Board of Canada’s Working Group on Public Service Productivity. She was jury co-chair for the Government of Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (2022-2024). She was named 2021 Person of Distinction by the Public Affairs Association of Canada. Dawson holds a PhD in Political Science.
