February 20, 2020 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Ian Irvine as a Research Fellow.

“Ian’s insights on the economics of policies related to controlled substances have added a valuable dimension to the Institute’s research program,” said Robson. “We are glad that we will continue our collaboration.”

“The C.D. Howe Institute provides invaluable support to its researchers, particularly in getting their ideas into the public domain,” said Irvine.

Ian Irvine is a Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, Concordia University and a Fellow at the School of Irish Studies. He has been on the Faculty at Concordia University since 1978, and was promoted to Professor in 1995. He has also been an academic visitor at the University of Sydney, Australia, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the London School of Economics, the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Irvine’s current research interests focuses on tobacco-related issues and the development of the legal cannabis market. His work has been published by the European Economic Review, Economica, the Journal of Public Economics, Canadian Public Policy, the Berkeley Electronic Press, the Journal of Health Economics, the American Economic Review, and the Journal of Urban Economics.

Ian Irvine gained his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1978.
