February 24, 2014 - The C.D. Howe Institute announces that the Chair of its Board of Directors, William Morneau, has informed the Board that he is resigning from all his functions as a Board member with immediate effect.

"I am proud of the C.D. Howe Institute and its outstanding work on Canada's economic policy challenges," said Morneau, who is also Executive Chairman of Morneau Shepell. "With my new role as an adviser to the Liberal Party of Canada, however, I believe that I should stand aside before the end of my term this May to ensure that the Institute's nonpartisan reputation remains intact."

William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, thanked Morneau for his services to the Institute. "Bill Morneau has presided over a period of growth and accomplishment for the Institute," said Robson. "He understands the critical importance of nonpartisanship, and is doing the right thing by stepping down."

Hugh MacKinnon, CEO of Bennett Jones LLP and a Vice-Chair of the Board, will assume the role of acting Chair. "I thank Bill Morneau on behalf of the C.D. Howe Institute's Board of Directors for his leadership, and look forward to working with the Board, Bill Robson and the team at the Institute toward continued success," said MacKinnon.
