May 29, 2018 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the appointment of Jean-François Perrault, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of Scotiabank, to the Institute’s Monetary Policy Council.

“Jean-François’ exciting career in the public and private sectors equips him with a unique perspective on Canadian economy,” remarked Robson. “His in-depth knowledge of monetary economics and fiscal policy will be highly valuable to the Monetary Policy Council and to the C.D. Howe Institute’s work in these areas.”

As senior vice president and chief economist, Perrault leads a team of economists to support Scotiabank’s domestic and international business lines and clients from retail to capital markets, providing the bank’s senior executives, business lines and customers with economic perspectives, insights and forecasts.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Perrault held prominent roles with the federal government, the Bank of Canada, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The C.D. Howe Institute Monetary Policy Council is comprised of 12 of Canada’s most distinguished financial-market and monetary economists. Chaired by the Institute’s President and Chief Executive Officer William Robson, the council provides the Bank of Canada, financial-market participants and economic policy commentators with a regular independent assessment of the appropriate stance of Canadian monetary policy as the Bank of Canada pursues its 2 percent inflation target.
