Summary

Grant Bishop was Associate Director of Research for the C.D. Howe Institute from 2018-2021. Based in Calgary, he led the Institute’s research on energy, competition and regulatory policy.

In his former role as a consultant with McKinsey & Company in Calgary, he served clients in the electricity production, natural gas transmission, upstream petroleum production, agricultural and financial service sectors. Previously, he served as a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal in Ottawa and articled with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP in Toronto. Prior to studies in law, he served in research roles at the Bank of Canada, the World Bank and Toronto-Dominion Bank, authoring economic studies including on the implications of resource royalties for fiscal federalism, reform of Employment Insurance and old-age pensions, household debt and the long-run growth of the Canadian economy. He has written various publications on Canadian economic issues, financial regulation and competition policy.

He holds bachelor’s degrees in geological engineering and economics from Queen’s University, a Master of Arts in economics from the University of British Columbia, and a J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
