The Basel III Reforms created new global standards for financial institutions in response to the 2008 global financial crisis. Canada's financial system continues to be a model of stability, But Canadians may be affected adversely by these changes in global financial regulation. Will global financial reform strangle the ability of Canadian banks to serve Canadian customers? Canadian Western Bank's Laurence Pollock discussed the impact of global financial reforms on financial institutions - and on their shareholders, depositors and borrowers.

Laurence Pollock has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Western Bank since 1990 and also a member of the Board of Directors since that time. Previously he was Regional Vice President Lloyds Bank (Toronto and Calgary).  Mr. Pollock has extensive experience as an analyst and commercial loan underwriter. He has been a Director of WestJet Airlines Ltd., since September 16, 1999 and Epcor Utilities, Inc. since 1998. In addition he serves as Chair of Canadian Direct Insurance Incorporated and National Leasing Group Inc. and as a director of Canadian Helicopters Group Inc. He is also a member of the Executive Council of the Canadian Bankers' Association. Mr. Pollock is a graduate of Business Administration from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences.
