March 10, 2020 – William Robson, CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Anindya Sen as a Research Fellow.

“Anindya is a valuable contributor to the C.D. Howe Institute’s research program,” said Robson. “His insights on competition and regulated industries shed light on some of Canada’s most complex policy challenges.”

“I am very pleased with my re-appointment,” said Sen. “The C.D. Howe Institute has given me the opportunity to pursue and publish papers on a wide array of policy issues. I look forward to continuing this relationship especially with my current focus on government initiatives related COVID-19.”

Anindya Sen is Professor of Economics and Director of the Master of Public Service at the University of Waterloo. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Prior to working at the University of Waterloo, Professor Sen worked as an economist at the Competition Bureau.

His research interests are the economics of public policy, with an emphasis on estimating the statistical effects of government intervention and imperfectly competitive market structures. In this respect, he has published research on the relationship between market concentration and gasoline prices, the impacts of higher cigarette taxes on smoking, the effects of higher minimum wages on employment and poverty, and the consequences of incentive programs on electricity usage. These papers have been published in peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Canadian Journal of Economics, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Regulatory Economics, International Review of Law and Economics, Labour Economics, and Canadian Public Policy. His work has extensively covered by The Globe and MailThe Financial Post, CBC, and The Toronto Star.
