July 12, 2024 – We are pleased to announce that Jeremy Kronick, Associate Vice President and Director of the C.D. Howe Institute Centre on Financial and Monetary Policy, is now Co-Chair of the Institute’s prestigious Monetary Policy Council (MPC). Effective immediately, Kronick takes on the role alongside long-time MPC Chair, C.D. Howe Institute President and CEO William B.P. Robson.

“I am delighted to welcome Jeremy as Co-Chair of the Council,” says Robson. “He is highly regarded for his monetary policy insights, and his pivotal role shepherding the Institute’s Centre on Financial and Monetary Policy makes him a natural fit to serve as Co-Chair.”

The C.D. Howe Institute’s MPC is comprised of 12 of Canada’s most distinguished financial-market and monetary economists. It provides the Bank of Canada, financial-market participants and economic policy commentators with a regular independent assessment of the appropriate stance of Canadian monetary policy as the Bank of Canada pursues its 2 percent inflation target.

In addition to the MPC, Kronick also serves as Chair of the C.D. Howe Institute’s Domestic Stability Buffer Council and Co-Chair of the Institute’s Business Cycle Council. The former provides the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), industry participants and key economic policy voices with an independent assessment of the direction for its domestic stability buffer in pursuit of OSFI's mandate. The latter is an authoritative arbiter of business cycle dates in Canada.

The next announcement from the MPC is set to be released on Thursday, July 18th.
