July 8, 2021 – William Robson, CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the appointment of Leonard Waverman as a Senior Fellow and member of the National Council.

“Len has made many contributions to the C.D. Howe Institute – as an author, as a member of its Board of Directors, and as Co-Chair of its Telecommunications Policy Working Group,” said Robson. “His insights into some of the most challenging areas of economic policy are always valuable and we look forward to continued collaboration with him.”

Leonard Waverman is the former Dean of the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, and a former member of the C.D. Howe Institute’s Board of Directors. He continues as a professor of finance and business economics and as the Acting Director of the newly formed Foresight Lab, both at McMaster.

Dr. Waverman is a world-renowned expert in international telecommunications and global resources management.

He specializes in microeconomics and industrial organization, economics of telecommunications, energy and resource economics, international trade, public utility and public enterprise economics. His research continues to focus on the impact that developments in the telecommunication industry have on growth and productivity.

Dr. Waverman has consulted widely on energy, natural resources, telecommunications, and competition policy matters in Canada, the United States, and Europe.

He earned his BCom and MA from the University of Toronto and his PhD in economics from MIT. He has been a professor of economics at the University of Toronto and the London Business School and Dean of the Haskayne School of Business as well as professor of strategy at the University of Calgary.
