February 17, 2022 – William Robson, CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Michael Parkin as a Research Fellow.

“The C.D. Howe Institute has long benefited from Michael’s macroeconomic analysis, and particularly his incisive approach to monetary policy,” said Robson. “He is a valued collaborator, and we are delighted to continue working with him.”

“The success of Canada’s flexible inflation targeting owes much to the work of the C.D. Howe Institute Monetary Policy Council and the quality of its communications,” said Parkin.

Mr. Michael Parkin has been a Professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario since 1975. Educated at the University of Leicester, he has held faculty appointments at the University of Sheffield, the University of Leicester, the University of Essex and the University of Manchester. Parkin has also held visiting appointments at Brown University, the University of New South Wales, the Reserve Bank of Australia, Osmania University, the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, the Bank of Japan, Bond University and the University of Canterbury.

Past president of the Canadian Economics Association, Michael has served on the editorial boards of the American Economic Review, the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Journal of International Money and Finance, and served as managing editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics.

Professor Parkin’s research on macroeconomics, monetary economics and international economics has been published in more than 160 articles in journals and edited volumes, including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.

He has edited several conference volumes and other collections and his textbooks, Modern Macroeconomics (1983), and Economics (1989), which have been published in numerous editions and languages, and are leading texts in Canada as well as throughout the world.
