November 27, 2020 – William Robson, CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the appointment of Nick Pantaleo, FCPA, FCA as a Senior Fellow.

“Nick’s authoritative knowledge and policy acumen on tax issues have made him a valued source of ideas for the C.D. Howe Institute, notably on its Fiscal and Tax Competitiveness Council,” said Robson. “We’re delighted to welcome him as a Senior Fellow.”

Pantaleo is a retired executive formerly with Rogers Communications where he was Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance, from July 2013 to December 2018 responsible for Business Continuity, Corporate Investigations, Enterprise Risk Management, Fraud Management, Insurance, Internal Audit, Lawful Access Request, Physical Security, Retail Loss Prevention and Tax.

Prior to joining Rogers, Pantaleo was with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for almost 33 years (22 as partner) where he served in various national leadership roles.

Recognized as one of Canada's top tax specialists, Pantaleo has spoken at various tax and business conferences, including conferences sponsored by the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association, and the Tax Executives Institute. He has written numerous papers and is a former co-editor of the International Tax Planning feature of the Canadian Tax Journal and a recipient of the Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award, presented annually by the Canadian Tax Foundation. In December 2007, Pantaleo was appointed by federal Finance Minister James Flaherty to serve as a member of the Advisory Panel on Canada's System of International Taxation.

Currently, Pantaleo is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute Fiscal and Tax Competitiveness Council and a member of the Board of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Most recently, he was the Executive in Residence (part time) at the University of Waterloo and a member of the board of Catholic Charities where he served as Chair of the Audit and Pension and Benefits committees.

He is a Past President of the Canadian Branch of the International Fiscal Association, a past governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation, a former Adjunct Associate Professor of international tax at the University of Waterloo Master of Taxation program and a former lecturer and the course coordinator at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Advance International Tax Course.

Pantaleo is a Chartered Professional Accountant and became a Fellow in 2006. He is a graduate of Institute of Corporate Directors – Rotman Directors Education Program and in 2012 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
