January 6, 2020 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the appointment of Ron Mock as a Senior Fellow.

“Ron has had an extraordinary career, culminating in his leadership of one of Canada’s stand-out pension successes,” said Robson. “We are delighted to welcome him to the C.D. Howe Institute as a Senior Fellow, and look forward to collaborating with him across our work program.”

“I have had a long association with the C.D. Howe Institute, and have had the pleasure to have spoken at functions and contributed to their thought-provoking publications," said Mock. "I am extremely pleased to join such an impressive and important organization.”

Ron Mock was President and CEO of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan from 2014 to December 2019. He is a recognized leader in both long-term fund investing and pension administration and advocacy.

Mock started his career as an electrical engineer with Ontario Hydro, where he ultimately became responsible for nuclear safety and licensing at key nuclear generating stations. After moving into finance, Mock served with investment dealer Burns Fry (now BMO Nesbitt Burns), where he directed sales and trading staff in derivative products and held the firm's membership seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, among other exchanges.

Mock graduated from the University of Toronto with a BASc in electrical engineering and later earned an MBA from York University. He is currently a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Schulich School of Business at York University. In 2015, York University awarded him the Recognition Award for Outstanding Executive Leadership, and two years later awarded him with an honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of his contributions to corporate leadership, investments and gender equality. In 2018, Mock was presented with Belgium's Commander of the Order of the Crown, one of the highest distinctions in the national orders of the Kingdom of Belgium.
