2011 Benefactors Lecture Featuring Don Drummond

Toronto ON, Four Seasons Hotel, 21 Avenue Road 3rd Floor

November 17, 2011 Benefactors Lecture and Dinner (Toronto): A Prescription for Canada's Health System

Canada’s healthcare systems are under increasing pressure. A rapidly aging population, damaging provincial deficits and rising costs will have important consequences for healthcare financing and delivery. We have mediocre results on certain key diseases and preventable deaths, and long waiting times for specialists. Unlike most European countries, we have mostly private coverage for everything other than primary care.  How do we make Canadian healthcare financially sustainable while improving quality and access?

Don Drummond, Matthews Fellow in Global Public Policy at Queen’s University, Co-Chair of the Institute's Fiscal & Tax Competitiveness Council and a Senior Fellow at the Institute, spoke on "Therapy or Surgery? A Prescription for Canada’s Health System"  at the 2011 Benefactors Lecture and Dinner.

The Institute’s annual Benefactors Lecture is a highlight of our crowded calendar – our chance to say “thank you” to the Institute’s members and friends and acknowledge their impact on our policy work.

The Benefactor’s Lecture – which recognizes the importance of philanthropy to the Institute – was sponsored in 2011 by Briar Foster, Chairman and founder of Foster & Associates.
