Goldy Hyder, President and CEO, Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada

Goldy provides strategic communications counsel to the firm’s extensive and diverse client base. Building on his experience in the public and private sectors, Goldy offers clients an acute understanding of the dynamics of public affairs, government relations and strategic communications, particularly from a reputation and issues management perspective.

Goldy works with a wide array of industries, including banking, insurance, energy, environment, mining, health, international trade, transportation and US-Canada relations. He is a seasoned expert on mergers and acquisitions, having worked on numerous transactions, including for state-owned enterprises (SOEs), in a variety of industries from energy to mining to technology.

With a firm grasp of the public policy process and the issues that face the private sector in dealing with federal and provincial governments, Goldy is able to provide clients with strong representation that generates desired results.

Goldy brought to H+K more than 22 years of experience in the private and public sectors. Prior to joining the firm in 2001, Goldy served as director of policy and chief of staff to the Right Honourable Joe Clark, former prime minister and former leader of the then federal PC Party.

Goldy holds a master of arts degree from the University of Calgary in public policy with a specialization in policy-making during times of crisis. Goldy is a board and executive member of United Way Ottawa and co-chaired the 2013-2014 community campaign. He is also a board member of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and chair of the Communications and Community Investment Committee. Goldy serves on the advisory board of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce and is a special advisor to Young Canadians in Finance.

Goldy is a regular commentator on business and politics in the national media and appears weekly on Lang O’Leary Exchange’s Big Picture Panel. Goldy received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for his distinguished service to Canada.

 

The Honourable Darrell Dexter, Vice-Chair, Global Public Affairs and former Premier of Nova Scotia

The Honourable Darrell Dexter, former Premier of Nova Scotia, joined Global Public Affairs as Vice Chair in September 2015.  As Vice Chair, Darrell is a senior member of the Global team, working with our firm’s public affairs experts across the country on a range of client matters and business development initiatives.

Darrell assumed the leadership of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party (NDP) in 2001 and led it to form the first-ever provincial NDP government in Atlantic Canada, becoming the 27th Premier of Nova Scotia. As Premier, he earned praise for controlling spending, launching a renewable energy strategy, and reducing small business taxes.  Darrell oversaw ambitious new environmental policies and was presented with a Climate Leadership in Canada award at the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.  As Chair of the Council of the Federation from 2012-13, Darrell worked on key initiatives such as leading an economic trade mission to China, establishing the Pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance, and improving the flow of inter-provincial trade.

A lawyer by background, Darrell also worked as a journalist and served in the Canadian Armed Forces before launching his career in public service, spending 15 years in the Nova Scotia Legislature as an MLA. In the course of his work as an elected official, party leader, Leader of Nova Scotia’s Official Opposition, and Premier, Darrell was engaged on critical issues and discussions related to energy and resource development, transportation, healthcare, the environment, infrastructure, and the economy.

Since leaving public life, Darrell has been active with various organizations on democracy-building and governance projects.  He led two international election observer missions to Tunisia in 2014.

Darrell holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Dalhousie University, as well as a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College.  He subsequently earned his law degree from Dalhousie University in 1987.

 

Pelino Colaiacovo, Managing Director, Morrison Park Advisors

Pelino Colaiacovo is a Managing Director at Morrison Park Advisors. Since joining MPA in 2005, Pelino has focused on assisting clients in the energy, utilities, infrastructure and public sectors meet financial and strategic challenges, including mergers & acquisitions, capital raising, restructuring and project partnerships.

Prior to joining MPA, Pelino was Chief of Staff to the Ontario Minister of Energy from 2003 to 2005. During that time, he assisted in significant restructuring of the Ontario electricity sector, including the drafting and implementation of new legislation, the creation of the Ontario Power Authority, and significant procurements of new electricity generation capacity for the province.

As Senior Vice‐President in the Office of the CEO at Royal Bank of Canada, John Stackhouse is adviser to the executive leadership team and board of directors on economic, political and social affairs, and a champion for the bank on public policy.
Before joining RBC in January 2015, Stackhouse was editor‐in‐chief of The Globe and Mail, and led the news organization through the launch of a paid website, mobile apps and a historic redesign of the newspaper. He was previously the Globe’s business editor, foreign editor and, for seven years, a foreign correspondent based in New Delhi, India. His reporting won five National Newspaper Awards. Stackhouse has interviewed a host of world leaders, including Vladimir Putin, George W. Bush, the Aga Khan, Aung San Suu Kyi and Benazir Bhutto. He has also written two books, Out of Poverty and Timbit Nation, and is due to publish a third, Mass Disruption: How the Digital Revolution is Changing What You Read, in Fall 2015.
He is a senior fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, and the C.D. Howe Institute, and serves on the boards of Saint Elizabeth Health Care and World Literacy Canada. RBC is Canada's largest publicly traded company, and the world’s 12th largest bank, with approximately 78,000 employees and $940.6 billion in assets.
