Laura Dottori-Attanasio, Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer, CIBC

Laura Dottori‐Attanasio leads the Risk Management function which encompasses all areas of strategic, market, credit, operational, liquidity, and reputational risk.

Laura joined CIBC as Global Head of Corporate Credit Products in 2009. In this role she had Business Unit responsibility for Corporate and Global banking and ran all credit activities at CIBC's wholesale bank.

Laura has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector. Before joining CIBC, she was with one of Canada's Chartered Banks where she held a number of senior positions.

Laura has extensive and ongoing involvement in the not‐for‐profit community. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Children's Aid Foundation and the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation. Laura is also a member of the Board of Trustees of GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) and she is CIBC's Executive Champion and Sponsor for Diversity and inclusion.

Laura is a member of the Board of Directors of Teck Resources and was recently named one of "Canada's Most Powerful Women" by WXN. She resides in Toronto with her husband and four children.

 

Rahim Hirji, Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, Manulife

Rahim Hirji holds the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, and is a member of the Company’s Executive and Management Committees.

Mr. Hirji is responsible for the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework. This includes all aspects of risk management oversight functions worldwide such as credit, market, and insurance and operational risks.

Prior to his appointment in 2011 as Chief Risk Officer, Mr. Hirji was the Chief Financial Officer for the Canadian Division, a role he held since 2007. Mr. Hirji previously headed Manulife’s Global Asset Liability Management Operations and has also held various financial and actuarial roles in the Corporate, U.S. and Canadian Divisions.

Mr. Hirji holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from University of Waterloo, is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Society of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

 

Mark Hughes, Chief Risk Officer, RBC

As chief risk officer, Mr. Hughes oversees the strategic management of risk on an enterprise-wide basis. He is a member of Group Executive, which sets the overall strategic direction of RBC, and is also a member of the RBC Group Operating Committee.

Mr. Hughes joined RBC in 1981 and was appointed chief risk officer in 2014. Prior to this position, Mr. Hughes was executive vice-president and chief operating officer for RBC Capital Markets.

Since 1981, Mr. Hughes has held progressively senior roles at the bank primarily in Corporate Banking and Global Credit and has held a number of positions in RBC’s international offices including New York and London. Appointed as an executive officer of RBC in 1995, Mr. Hughes was responsible for RBC’s global loan portfolio over the past decade.

Mr. Hughes received his MBA (Finance) from Manchester Business School and his LL.B from Leeds University in England. He is a member of the ParticipACTION Board of Directors, and has served as a director of a number of RBC subsidiaries as well as industry associations. Mr. Hughes and his wife, Anne, have two children.
