Stéfane Marion, Executive Vice-President, Financial Markets and Chief Economist and Strategist, National Bank of Canada

Stéfane Marion is Chief Economist and Strategist for National Bank of Canada and National Bank Financial, a position he has held since November 2008. Mr. Marion is a sought-after speaker on economic trends and their financial implications and is ranked among the leading economists in Canada according to Brendan Wood International.

National Bank Financial's Economics and Strategy team is regularly ranked among the top Canadian forecasters and has won recognition for the accuracy of its projections.

In 2012, the C.D. Howe Institute appointed Mr. Marion to its Monetary Policy Council and to the newly established Business Cycle Council. He also sits on National Bank Pension Committee.

Mr. Marion joined NBF’s Economics Group in 1999. Previously, Mr. Marion worked for several years in the federal departments of Finance and Industry in Ottawa, where, in addition to economic analysis and forecasting, he also worked on microeconomic policy impact studies. In particular, he participated in the development of forecasting models and the analysis of the FTA and NAFTA free-trade agreements with the United States and Mexico.
Mr. Marion holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Université de Montréal.

 

Elisha Ram, Director, Capital Markets Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch, Department of Finance

Elisha Ram is the Director of the Capital Markets Division in the Financial Sector Policy Branch of the Department of Finance Canada.  In this role, he is responsible for providing analysis and advice to the Minister of Finance on capital markets issues, including housing finance policy, well-functioning markets, and market regulatory matters (including the creation of a cooperative securities regulator).  Since joining the Department of Finance in 1996, Elisha has worked in a variety of economic and financial policy areas including tax policy, economic and fiscal policy, economic development, and funds management.  Elisha has a Masters degree in economics from Western University.

 

Wojciech (Wojo) Zielonka, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice-President, Capital Markets, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
 


Wojciech (Wojo) Zielonka was appointed Senior Vice-President, Capital Markets in March 2014 and Chief Financial Officer in September 2016.

Mr. Zielonka joined CMHC as Chief Risk Officer in August 2009 and was appointed Vice-President, Capital Markets in January 2012. He has held roles of increasing responsibility throughout his career, including Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Solace Systems; CFO and Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Hydro Ottawa Group of Companies; Managing Director, Operations, GE Treasury (Stamford, CT); CFO and CIO, GE Financial Assurance Mexico; Vice-President, Business Development, GE Capital Aviation Services (Stamford, CT). Mr. Zielonka has also held management and senior management positions with International UNP Holdings and Price Waterhouse.

Wojo Zielonka holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from Ontario and a Certified Public Account (CPA) designation from Illinois, as well as a Bachelors of Arts (Economics) degree from Carleton University.
