Joanna Eyquem, Managing Director, Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, University of Waterloo

Joanna Eyquem is an internationally-recognized leader in climate adaptation and nature-based solutions, with 25 years experience in Europe, North America and Western Africa. Her work at the Intact Centre focuses on reducing flooding, erosion and heat risk, in particular working with nature and the financial sector. As part of this work, Joanna is leading the development of national guidance for disclosures of natural assets, and the ecosystem services they provide, in financial statements and sustainability reporting. In addition, Joanna serves on over 30 boards and committees, including supporting the National Adaptation Strategy, the Canadian Sustainable Finance Network, the TFND Forum, the National Research Council of Canada, CSA Group, the Government of Quebec’s Expert Group on Adaptation, and as Vice Chair of the Board for the Natural Assets Initiative. Prior to joining the Intact Centre, Joanna was the Global Technical Practice Lead for Climate Resilience at AECOM, building on previous roles at Royal Haskoning DHV and Jacobs Engineering. She is professionally qualified in both Canada and the UK, as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV.SP.), Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (CWEM) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv.). She holds an MSc in Environmental Technology (Water Option) from Imperial College London and a BSc in Geography (Earth Sciences) from the University of Exeter, UK. Joanna is bilingual and typically featured in over 150 media features a year (in English and French), including numerous features on natural asset accounting (e.g. Accounting body proposes rule changes to put nature on the balance sheet, Is it time to make ‘natural capital’ an asset class? ).

 

Glen Hodgson, Chief Economist, Momentus Global 

Glen Hodgson has 40 years of experience in global and Canadian macroeconomics, international trade analysis and finance, fiscal and tax policy, and other “big picture” topics.

Prior to joining the C.D. Howe as Fellow-in-Residence, Glen’s career spanned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., the federal Department of Finance, Export Development Canada (EDC), and the Conference Board of Canada. He has travelled the world and Canada as an economic analyst and public speaker, financial negotiator, and advisor to governments, businesses and international organizations.

Topics of expertise and interest include: global, U.S., Canadian and provincial economic performance; globalization, trade and disruption; managing catastrophic risk; the emerging low-carbon economy; fiscal and tax policy; and the business economics of sports.

Glen has co-authored two books and over 375 reports, briefings and articles, with a regular commentary in the Globe and Mail. He has delivered many presentations to audiences of all types and sizes, and done numerous media interviews via print, TV, radio and social media.
