Peter Hall, Vice President and Chief Economist, Export Development Canada 

Peter Hall joined Export Development Canada (EDC) in November 2004. With over 25 years of experience in economic analysis and forecasting, Mr. Hall is responsible for overseeing EDC’s economic analysis, country risk assessment and corporate research groups. In addition to preparing strategic advice for senior management at EDC, Mr. Hall is a featured speaker at conferences, international roundtables and policy fora, and regularly appears in television, radio and print media commenting on the world economy and Canadian international trade issues. He produces a widely circulated print and video weekly commentary covering an eclectic range of current global economic issues.

Prior to joining EDC, Mr. Hall directed the economic forecasting activities of the Conference Board of Canada. Mr. Hall has served as president of both the Canadian Association for Business Economics, a 600-member national association of professional economists, and its largest local chapter, the Ottawa Economics Association. Mr. Hall has degrees in economics from both Carleton University and the University of Toronto.

EDC is Canada’s trade finance agency, providing financing and insurance solutions locally and around the world to help Canadian companies of any size respond to international business opportunities. As a profitable Crown corporation that operates on commercial principles, EDC works together with private- and public- sector financial institutions to create greater capacity for Canadian companies to engage in trade and investment.

 

Scott Clark, President of C. S. Clark Consulting, former Deputy Minister of Finance, and Adjunct Professor of Economics, Carleton University​

Mr. Clark is currently President of C. S. Clark Consulting. Prior to that Mr. Clark held a number of senior positions in the Canadian Government dealing with both domestic and international policy issues. In regard to domestic policy issues, Mr. Clark served in a number of Assistant Deputy minister positions in the Department of Finance. He also served as Associate Deputy Minister of Finance (1994-1997), Deputy Minister of Finance (1997-2000), and Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister (2001).

In the area of international policy issues, Mr. Clark was Canada’s Executive Director to the International Monetary Fund (1989-1992), Canada’s G-7 Deputy (1992-1994), and Canada’s Executive Director to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) (2001-2006). At the EBRD he served on the Budget Committee and was also chair of the Audit Committee.

As Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Clark served as an ex-officio member on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada and Export Development Canada. Mr. Clark was adviser to the Independent Evaluation Office of the International Monetary Fund (2007-2009). He also served as adviser to the Asian Development Bank with regard to governance issues (2008-2010).

He was visiting Fellow at the School of Public Policy, Queens University (2000-2001) and Director of the Queens Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy (2007). Mr. Clark taught economics at the University of Western Ontario (1969-1976), and has guest lectured at the University of China, Hong Kong (2004), and provided advice to the Government of Viet Nam (2005). Mr. Clark is currently an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Economics, Carleton University.

Mr. Clark is a frequent commentator on public policy issues on CBC radio and TV, CTV, and BNN. Mr. Clark and Peter Devries comment regularly on domestic and international policy issues on their blog www.3dpolicy.ca. They also contribute commentary to the Report on Business in the Globe and Mail.

Mr. Clark has an honors BA in Economics and mathematics from Queen’s University (1966), and a PhD in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley (1971).

 

Timothy Egan, President & Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Gas Association 

Timothy M. Egan became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Gas Association in September 2010.

Prior to his appointment he was President of High Park Group (HPG), a public affairs consulting firm.

Mr. Egan serves as Canada’s representative at the International Gas Union, sitting on the Executive Committee and as the Regional Coordinator for North America.

Mr. Egan is publisher of the Energy Regulation Quarterly, and editor of the magazine Energy.

He has an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Ottawa, and common and civil law degrees from McGill University. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1995.

He is married to Patricia (nee Armstrong) and they have five daughters.
