Toronto ON, Osler, Hoski, C.D. Howe Institute, 67 Yonge Street, Suite 300

The Economic Situation, Outlook, and Medium-Term Challenges

The C.D. Howe Institute is a think tank with a Canadian mandate. As such, we seek to create a dialogue that is truly national in scope. We were pleased to host this bilingual roundtable event with Paul Rochon, to bring cities across Canada together by videoconference. The Institute's Toronto members joined us at our offices and Montreal members participated in the off-the-record dialogue by videoconference at the offices of McCarthy Tétrault.

The Institute is deeply honoured to host the Annual David Laidler Luncheon to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Professor Laidler in the field of monetary policy.

Paul Rochon assumed the position of Deputy Minister of Finance on April 21, 2014.

Prior to this appointment, from July 2013 to April 2014, Mr. Rochon served as Deputy Minister of International Development, under the new Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development.

Previously, Mr. Rochon was Associate Deputy Minister of Health and concurrently Special Advisor to the Minister of Finance on negotiations for a Canadian securities regulator.

Mr. Rochon has more than 20 years of experience at the Department of Finance and held a number of positions, including Associate Deputy Minister of Finance and Canada's Finance Deputy at the G-7, G-20 and the Financial Stability Forum, as well as Senior Assistant Deputy Minister in the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch.

Prior to joining the Department of Finance, Mr. Rochon worked for three years at the Conference Board of Canada. He holds a bachelor's degree in History from McGill University and a master's degree in Economics from the University of Toronto.
