Policy Conference: Transforming the Canadian Payments System
Toronto ON, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP Lecture Hall, C.D. Howe Institute, 67 Yonge Street, Suite 300
Sponsored by:
The C.D. Howe Institute was pleased to host its third conference on the payments system in Canada. In 2011, the Institute hosted its first conference on competition, innovation, and stability. In 2013, we continued the dialogue by hosting representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss the government's stability agenda, the core payments system, stakeholder concerns, and privacy issues. While the conversation was rich and productive, government action and technological disruptions continue to affect the payments space. Government officials and business leaders expressed that these topics warrant further discussion. This year's conference brought together senior government decision-makers, industry leaders and key stakeholder to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the Canadian payments system. We explored oversight and governance issues, consider infrastructure and delivery, and look forward to impending technological disruptions. To encourage the most candid debate, all presentations and discussions were off-the-record.
