Over the past six years, more than US$12.5 billion in venture capital (VC) funds have been invested in Canadian AI companies. Global and Canadian VC investment in AI peaked in 2021 and have both declined each year since. VC investments in Canadian AI are spread across industries, with financial and insurance services, business processes and support services, and IT infrastructure and hosting accounting for 42 percent of VC investments over the past five years – though we are notably absent in “Mobility and autonomous vehicles,” the largest AI industry, as measured by global VC investment size.
