November 29, 2017 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute announced the appointment of Brenda González-Hermosillo, former deputy division chief of the Global Financial Stability Division at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as the Institute’s newest Fellow-in-Residence.

“Brenda has tremendous experience in financial services policy in Canada and around the world,” said Robson. “We look forward to working with her to strengthen the C.D. Howe Institute’s work program in the financial sector and international economic policy.”

An expert in the field of financial system stability, González-Hermosillo has served the IMF for more than 23 years. In her most recent role as the Deputy Division Chief of the Global Financial Stability Division, González-Hermosillo led the development of analytical chapters of the Global Financial Stability Report, an IMF flagship publication that assesses key risks facing the global financial system.

In addition to her work with the IMF, González-Hermosillo served as a visiting professor of finance at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. Prior to joining the Fund, she served at various Canadian public institutions, including the Bank of Canada and at the Department of Finance.

She obtained her Ph.D. in economics from Tilburg University in the Netherlands and her master’s degree from the University of Western Ontario. She earned her undergraduate degree in economics at the Instituto Teconologico Autonomo de Mexico.
