November 18, 2014 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, today announced the launch of the Institute’s Energy and Resources Policy Council, a distinguished group of Canadians to advise the Institute's work promoting good economic policy for Canada’s energy and resources sector. Elyse Allan, President and CEO of General Electric (GE) Canada and Vice President GE, will serve as the Council’s founding chair.

“Canada’s rapid development as a major, reliable supplier of energy and natural resources is a boon, but creates many policy challenges. Fiscal, transportation, ownership and environmental issues all require solid research and practical recommendations,” said Robson. “The Energy and Resources Policy Council is a top-rank group of experts, and Elyse’s knowledge, experience and skills make her an outstanding chair.”

The C.D. Howe Institute’s Energy and Resources Policy Council convenes industry leaders, policymakers, subject-matter experts and leading academics to support and advise the Institute’s work on Canada’s energy and resources sectors.

Ms. Allan’s career with GE began in 1984 and has spanned the US, Canada and several industrial and consumer GE businesses including aviation, energy and lighting.

She is a passionate champion for Canada’s competitiveness, advancing the country’s science and technology base and competitive fiscal policy. She has been recognized as a YWCA 2012 Woman of Distinction (Business), a Top 100 Business Women of Influence by the Women’s Executive Network, as one of Canadian Business Magazine’s 25 Most Powerful People in Canada (2009), and was appointed Member of the Order of Canada (2014).
