March 28, 2017 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Dan Ciuriak, former Deputy Chief Economist, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, as a Fellow-in-Residence.
“Dan is a prolific and rigorous quantitative analyst of trade policy. His recent work on the potential Border Adjustment Tax in the US is just one example of his timely contributions,” commented Robson. “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Dan to enhance the knowledge base for trade policy in Canada.”
His most recent Institute reports, co-authored with Jingliang Xiao are titled “Aftershocks: Quantifying the Economic Impacts of a US Border Adjustment Tax” and “Protectionism and Retaliation.”
Dan Ciuriak specializes in international trade, finance and development. He has wide-ranging experience in the analysis and formulation of public policy, development of legislation, economic analysis in support of litigation (both private and state-to-state), and training and technical assistance in applied trade analysis and modeling. He has published widely as author and editor, within government and in a personal capacity, commented frequently in the media; and made numerous presentations at various academic, business and official venues, including the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, APEC and the OECD.
Previously, he was Deputy Chief Economist at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) with responsibility for economic analysis in support of trade negotiations and trade litigation. Before joining DFAIT, he worked at the Department of Finance. He holds a Masters in Economics from McMaster University.
