April 22, 2016 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, congratulates Daniel Trefler, Professor of Business Economics at the University of Toronto, for winning the prestigious Killam Prize.   

“Dan’s work has greatly deepened our understanding of international trade and its links to domestic productivity and economic growth,” remarked Robson. “On behalf of the Institute, I congratulate him for these outstanding recognitions of his important contributions to the field, and for the support that will help him push the frontiers of knowledge further.”

Dan Trefler is a C.D. Howe Institute Research Fellow and a member of the Institute’s International Economic Policy Council. He is also a Research Fellow both at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Canadian Economics Association’s Innis Award and the McDonald Award for contributions to early childhood advocacy.

He received his PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Every year the Killam Prize offers awards to outstanding Canadian scholars. These awards are among Canada’s most distinguished research awards.
