Dr. Laidler is the author of such lauded work as “Fabricating the Keynesian Revolution” and “The Golden Age of the Quantity Theory.”

November 25, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of David Laidler, internationally renowned economist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario, as a Research Fellow.

“David has made key contributions to monetary theory, and has applied his insights to a wide range of Canadian economic policy questions,” remarked Robson. “He has been a valued member of the C.D. Howe Institute’s research team for many years, and we are delighted to continue the relationship.”

He has been a scholar with the C.D. Howe Institute since 1990. Recent Institute work of his includes “Money Still Talks – Is Anyone Listening?” and “Natural Hazards: Some Pitfalls on the Path to a Neutral Interest Rate.” Two of his most influential works, co-authored by the Institute’s William Robson, include: “The Great Canadian Disinflation: The Economics and Politics of Monetary Policy in Canada,” which shared the first Doug Purvis Memorial Prize for a work of excellence in Canadian economic policy, and “Two Percent Target: Canadian Monetary Policy Since 1991,” which won the Donner Prize for outstanding book of the year on Canadian public policy.

Dr. Laidler is the author of such lauded work as “Fabricating the Keynesian Revolution” and “The Golden Age of the Quantity Theory.”

He received his B.Sc. Econ from the London School of Economics, his M.A. (Economics) from the University of Syracuse and his Ph.D. (Economics) from the University of Chicago, where he was a research assistant for Milton Friedman and Anna J. Schwartz's “Monetary History of the United States, 1867–1960.”

He has taught since 1961 and held many full-time, visiting and part-time academic positions. He was a Professor of Economics at the University Of Western Ontario for many years, the Department Chairman for three years and is now a Professor Emeritus.
