April 25, 2017 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Erwin W. Diewert, Professor, University of British Columbia, as a Research Fellow.

“Erwin has made huge contributions to econometrics, economic modelling, and measurement of such key concepts as aggregate prices, output and productivity,” remarked Robson. “The C.D. Howe Institute is delighted to be able to draw on his insights and expertise.”

Erwin W. Diewert has been a Professor in the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia since 1970. He earned a B.A. and M.A. in mathematics from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1969. Additionally, he holds a part-time appointment for 2 months of the year at the School of Economics, University of New South Wales.

His main areas of research are: flexible functional forms; the implications of maximizing behaviour; welfare economics and applied general equilibrium modeling; price measurement; the measurement of productivity; and index number theory, most of which involve duality theory in some way.
