June 19, 2017 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of The Honourable Konrad von Finckenstein, former Chair of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and Commissioner of Competition, as a Senior Fellow.

“Konrad is one of Canada’s foremost experts on competition policy and industry regulation,” commented Robson. “His wisdom and experience are great assets to the C.D. Howe Institute’s research.”

The Honourable Konrad von Finckenstein, Q.C. is an arbitrator of Canadian and international business disputes in both institutional and ad hoc settings. He has been in public service for nearly 40 years, and has been extensively involved in the negotiation and settlement of a wide variety of high-profile disputes since the 1980s. He has served with JAMS, the Resolution experts, in Toronto since 2013.

Justice von Finckenstein has held a number of prominent positions, including  Chair of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Justice of the Federal Court of Canada, and Commissioner of Competition, where he acquired broad experience in matters involving dispute resolution, business and commercial law, international trade, competition, telecommunications, and administrative law.

The most recent report by the Institute’s Competition Policy Council, of which Justice von Finckenstein is a member, is “Damage Control: Abuse of Dominance and the State of Private Remedies in the Competition Act.”
