April 28, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of The Honourable Konrad von Finckenstein as a Senior Fellow of the Institute.

“Konrad’s many insights into competition policy and regulation in Canada have been hugely valuable to the C.D. Howe Institute,” remarked Robson. “We are delighted at the continued opportunity to work with him on the many important policy challenges facing Canada in these areas.”

The Honourable Konrad von Finckenstein, Q.C. is an arbitrator of Canadian and international business disputes in both institutional and ad hoc settings. He has been in public service for nearly 40 years, and has been extensively involved in the negotiation and settlement of a wide variety of high-profile disputes since the 1980s. He has served with JAMS, the Resolution experts, in Toronto since 2013.

Justice von Finckenstein has held a number of prominent positions, including  Chair of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Justice of the Federal Court of Canada, and Commissioner of Competition, where he acquired broad experience in matters involving dispute resolution, business and commercial law, international trade, competition, telecommunications, and administrative law.

Recent reports by the Institute’s Competition Policy Council, of which Justice von Finckenstein is a member, include: “Reforming Telecommunications and Broadcast Policy for the New Technological Age” and “Cross-Border Price Regulation: Anti-Competition Policy?.”
