January 30, 2017 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Michael Parkin, Professor Emeritus, Department of Economics, University of Western Ontario, as a Research Fellow.

“Michael has a well-deserved international reputation as a monetary and macroeconomist,” remarked Robson. “The C.D. Howe Institute has long benefited from collaboration with him, and looks forward to further application of his rigorous analysis to Canadian issues.”

His most recent Institute report is titled “Mounting Evidence: Findings from Natural Experiments in Inflation Targeting”

Michael Parkin has been a Professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario since 1975. He was educated at the University of Leicester and held faculty appointments at the University of Sheffield (1963–64), University of Leicester (1965–67), University of Essex (1967–70), and University of Manchester (1970–75).  He is a past president of the Canadian Economics Association and has served on the editorial boards of the American Economic Review, the Journal of Monetary Economics, and the Journal of International Money and Finance.

Professor Parkin’s research on macroeconomics, monetary economics, and international economics has been published in more than 160 articles in journals and edited volumes. He has edited several conference volumes as well as other collections, and his textbooks, Modern Macroeconomics (1983) and Economics (1989), have been published in numerous editions and languages and are leading texts in Canada and throughout the world.
