Mr. Kierans has been awarded the Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

September 14, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of Thomas Kierans, O.C. as a Senior Fellow.

“Tom has extraordinary experience as a business and think-tank leader,” remarked Robson. “We are honoured to have his continued participation in our research program.”

Between 1979 and 1999, Mr. Kierans was President and Chief Executive Officer of the C.D. Howe Institute. An outstanding community leader, Mr. Kierans currently serves on the boards of multiple organizations including: the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, Selection Board Review Committees for the Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program, Historica Canada, Environics Institute for Survey Research, the Literary Review of Canada, the Foundation Board of the Royal Ontario Museum, the Canadian Curatorial Committee of the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Schulich School of Business.

Mr. Kierans is a Senior Fellow, Massey College, a member of the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, Chairman Emeritus of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors and Executive Chairman Emeritus of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

Mr. Kierans has been awarded the Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.  He has received an Honorary LL.D. from Royal Roads Military College and from McMaster University, Queen’s University and Ryerson University.  Mr. Kierans was also one of the first inductees into the IIAC Investment Industry Hall of Fame.

Mr. Kierans holds a BA (Honours) from McGill University and an MBA (Economics, Political Science and Finance), Dean’s Honours List, from the University of Chicago.
