November 9, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of William Scarth, Professor of Economics at McMaster University, as a Research Fellow

“Bill Scarth is an outstanding macroeconomist with a keen eye for important policy questions,” remarked Robson. “We are delighted to have his continued collaboration in the Institute’s research program.”

Dr. Scarth’s most recent Institute publication is entitled “User Discretion Advised: Fiscal Consolidation and the Recovery.”

Dr. Scarth first joined the McMaster faculty in 1971. During his career he has been an Adjunct Professor at Queen's, Waterloo and Simon Fraser Universities. He was also a Distinguished Visitor at the Universities of Alberta, Athens, Calgary and Canterbury

He has consulted for Finance Canada, the Economic Council of Canada, and Statistics Canada. He served as a Senior Fellow in Economic Policy at the Reserve Bank of Australia.

He obtained his PhD (Economics) from the University of Toronto.
