Summary
Barry Gros is a pension actuary who retired from active consulting in Toronto in 2014. He just finished an 8-year tenure as the Chair of the pension board of the University of British Columbia Staff Pension Plan, a target benefit plan for the past 50 years. He is currently Chair of the University of Victoria Board of Trustees, which oversees the Money Purchase and Combination Pension Plans at the University of Victoria.
Barry has been a member of the C. D. Howe Institute’s Pension Policy Council for over 10 years. He was recently a member of the working group that BC Financial Services Authority formed to revamped it's PfAD regulations for target benefit plans.
Barry began his exploration of the target benefit plan concept over 10 years ago, which has resulted in two research projects with Barbara Sanders, a fellow actuary and professor at Simon Fraser University, numerous papers and op-eds, and speaking engagements at meetings of the ACPM, the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the BC Public Sector Pension Conference, the C. D. Howe Institute and the Northwind Professional Institute. Barry resides in Victoria, BC, taking full advantage of all the outdoor activities available on Vancouver Island.
