The C.D. Howe Institute was pleased to host an off-the-record seminar on supporting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). SMEs are the bedrock of Canada’s economy and the Canadian government focuses considerable attention supporting them. The Seminar convened senior-level industry representatives, policymakers and leading experts to review current incentives and explore viable policy solutions to ensure that SMEs are equipped with the right tools, programs, and services for growth.

Michael Trebilcock Wins the Donner Prize

April 30, 2015 – The C.D. Howe Institute congratulates Research Fellow Michael J. Trebilcock for winning this year’s $50,000 Donner Prize! The annual award is given to the best public policy book written by a Canadian. Dr. Trebilcock was awarded the prize for Dealing With Losers: The Political Economy of Policy Transitions, published by Oxford University Press.

April 28, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the re-appointment of The Honourable Konrad von Finckenstein as a Senior Fellow of the Institute.

Entrepreneurs Debate Series: Arlene Dickinson, Nitin Kawale, Greg Taylor, and moderator John Stackhouse

The Entrepreneurs Debate Series brings together industry veterans, public sector leaders, and the entrepreneur community to discuss key issues related to entrepreneurship in Canada. The expert panel discussed the main barriers to growth for entrepreneurs. Is the issue limited talent and knowledge of how to run a business by entrepreneurs, or are the challenges primarily external, with an unsupportive entrepreneurial culture in Canada?
