Alberta and New Brunswick come out on top in the Institute’s latest report card on government financial reporting, with Prince Edward Island trailing the pack. In Numbers You can Trust? The Fiscal Accountability of Canada’s Senior Governments, 2017, authors Colin Busby and William B. P. Robson assesses the quality of financial information published by Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments, and their success or failure in fulfilling their budget promises over the past 15 years. 

Colin Busby

Colin Busby is Director of Policy Engagement at the C.D. Howe Institute. He leads the Institute’s pension policy program as well as its Intelligence Memos.

William Robson

Bill Robson took office as President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute in July 2006, after serving as the Institute’s Senior Vice President since 2003 and Director of Research from 2000 to 2003. He has written more than 280 monographs, articles, chapters and books on such subjects as government budgets, pensions, healthcare financing, inflation and currency issues.
