Home / Priority Projects: Getting Canadian Energy Resources to Market
C.D. Howe Institute In-Person Conference
After years of lagging productivity, stagnant investment, and declining GDP per capita, Canada’s trade crisis with the United States is a wake-up call that forces a re-evaluation of our policies. Energy – from oil & gas to hydroelectricity, nuclear and beyond – are already among Canada’s most valuable exports, creating high-wage jobs and positive spinoffs to the broader economy. New and expanded infrastructure that gets Canadian energy to markets abroad will raise investment and living standards more and faster than any other near-term option.
This one-day conference will include a range of critical speakers, and will feature a keynote address by the Hon. Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. It will examine the enabling projects with the best near-term prospects to expand and diversify Canada’s energy exports, and identify the steps that governments and industry must take to bring them into operation.
The C.D. Howe Institute is well-positioned to lead the conversation Canada must have now, and it is stepping into this moment of challenge and opportunity with a program for change and impact, built upon its reputation for evidence-based research and policy advice. The Institute will publish and promote the resulting policy recommendations to ensure that Canada responds effectively to the US threat and seizes the opportunity to better develop one of its most valuable economic assets.
