Summary
Grant has a wealth of executive experience in policy development, regulatory systems and governance in the natural resource sphere.
As Deputy Minister for Energy in Alberta, Grant has been charged with developing and implementing complex and challenging policies, as well as providing strategic advice to the highest levels of government over many years. Grant served as Deputy Minister for Energy from July 2013 to May 2016 and again from April 2019 to June 2023.
Grant also served as Chair of the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Board which is responsible for marketing Alberta’s royalty share of oil. Further, Grant has served as a Director of the Alberta Energy Regulator and as Alberta’s Director on the board of Atlantik Bruecke Canada, a non-profit organisation promoting ties between Canada and Germany.
Grant has experience working with two significant law firms, addressing a broad range of legal issues, during his career.
Additionally, Grant has been a sessional instructor at the University of Alberta School of Business over many years, teaching an undergraduate class environmental law and several graduate level courses for the MBA program.
Grant has been acknowledged with the designation of King’s Counsel and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal. Grant has also obtained the ICD. D designation of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
