Hugh MacKinnon is Chair Emeritus for the C.D. Howe Institute.
Mr. MacKinnon joined the C.D. Howe Institute’s Board of Directors in 2009, where he was promptly appointed to the board’s Executive and Governance Committee in 2010 and as Vice-Chair in 2013. From 2014 to June 2025, he served as Chair of the Institute’s Board of Directors.
In addition to his commitment to the C.D. Howe Institute, Mr. MacKinnon was previously Chair and CEO of Bennett Jones LLP from 2005 to 2023.
He is past Co-Chair of the Canada Institute of the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. and Chair of the Ontario Brain Institute as well as the Collegium of the University of St. Michael’s College (Toronto). Mr. MacKinnon is a member of the Law Societies of Ontario, Alberta and England and Wales.
