Canada’s Happiness Decline Hits Young People the Hardest

Canada ranks 15th on the world happiness index in 2024, down 10 places from 2015. For those below age 30, Canada ranked 58th, while for those over age 60, it ranked 8th. The only countries with a worse decline in young people’s happiness – comparing 2006-2010 to 2021-2023 – are Jordan, Venezuela, Lebanon and Afghanistan. Once the happiest group in Canada, people under 30 are now the least happy, outpacing the declines across the rest of the population. For more information, please see the related Intelligence Memo.
