Graph of the Week: US Crude Oil Production, Imports, and the Shrinking Trade Deficit

US imports of Canadian crude oil have displaced imports from more expensive or otherwise less desirable sources and complemented rising US production in meeting US demand (not shown here), including demand from US refineries that export petroleum products. As a result, the once-large US deficit in crude oil and refined petroleum products has almost disappeared.
