January 21, 2026 – The C.D. Howe Institute is pleased to announce it has received a generous $250,000 donation from real estate leader Brian K. Johnston, CPA, CA.
Mr. Johnston has over 30 years of management experience in residential real estate, holding roles as CEO of the City of Toronto’s CreateTO, COO of Mattamy Homes and President of Monarch Corporation. He was a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors for more than 17 years.
Mr. Johnston’s donation supports the establishment of the William Robson Chair in Public Sector Governance and Accountability, which will support the Institute’s activities in areas pursued by its current President and CEO, William B.P. Robson.
“I am deeply grateful for Brian’s exceptional service and dedication to the Institute,” says Robson. “This donation builds on this legacy, and it will provide lasting support to the Institute’s capacity and ability to improve the transparency of Canadian fiscal management.”
