July 8, 2026 – The C.D. Howe Institute is pleased to announce former President and Executive Director Wendy Dobson’s appointment as a Fellow Emerita.
A distinguished economist and former associate deputy minister of finance, Dobson guided Canada’s most influential think tank during the early to mid-1980s.
She played a pivotal role in shaping the Institute’s International Economic Policy Council as Co-Chair, and continues to be the driving force behind the Institute’s Scholars’ Webcast Series, which gives researchers and members the opportunity to engage with internationally renowned policy scholars.
“Wendy’s thoughtful approach to solving complex economic issues through intelligent dialogue and collaboration is part of the fabric of the C.D. Howe Institute,” says C.D. Howe Institute President and CEO Jeremy Kronick. “Her designation as a Fellow Emerita recognizes her outstanding contributions to the Institute over many years and reflects its mission to promote policies that enhance Canadians’ prosperity and quality of life.”
Dobson is a Professor Emerita at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and an honorary director of the Canadian Ditchley Foundation.
She is also the past chair of the Pacific Trade and Development pan-Pacific research network and the author of more than two dozen books and articles on Asia and the international economy. Dobson has also served as a past director at TD, TC Energy and LiftED (formerly the Leacock Foundation).
