Canada’s business-sector labour productivity has risen only modestly since 2019 (+4.6 percent), but the aggregate masks large differences across industries. Utilities (-13.4 percent), construction (-8 percent), and manufacturing (-6 percent) remain below pre-pandemic levels, while agriculture, information and cultural industries, and real estate posted double-digit gains.

Note: “Business sector” represents the aggregate of all industries shown. “Business sector, goods” includes agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting; mining and oil and gas extraction; utilities; construction; and manufacturing. “Business sector, services” includes wholesale trade; retail trade; transportation and warehousing; information and cultural industries; finance and insurance and holding companies; real estate and rental and leasing; professional, scientific and technical services; administrative and support, waste management and remediation services; accommodation and food services; arts, entertainment and recreation; and Other business services. “Other business services” combines NAICS 61 (Educational services), 62 (Health care and social assistance), and 81 (Other services, except public administration).
