February 2, 2015 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces the appointment of John Murray as a Senior Fellow.

Dr. Murray held a number of senior positions during his 34-year career at the Bank of Canada, and served a Deputy Governor from 2008 until his retirement from the Bank in 2014. As a member of the Bank’s Governing Council, he shared responsibility for decisions on monetary policy, financial system stability, and strategic direction.

“John Murray has a global reputation as a deep thinker and able practitioner of monetary policy,” said Robson. “We are delighted that he is joining the C.D. Howe Institute, and look forward to collaborating with him in support of good monetary and macroeconomic policy in Canada.”

Dr. Murray holds a BComm from Queen’s University, and an MA and PhD in Economics from Princeton University. Prior to joining the Bank, he was an academic and taught at the University of British Columbia, the University of North Carolina and Princeton.

Robson noted that Dr. Murray joins a number of distinguished Senior Fellows who are expert in monetary issues at the C.D. Howe Institute: former Bank of Canada Governors John Crow, Gordon Thiessen and David Dodge; former Senior Deputy Governors Paul Jenkins and Charles Freedman; and former Deputy Governors Pierre Duguay and David Longworth. “Contributions from eminent former officials have been vital to the Institute’s research program over the years. John Murray exemplifies this tradition,” he said.
