June 14, 2021 – The Board of Directors and staff of the C.D. Howe Institute mourn the passing of Richard Bird.
“Richard was a deeply respected scholar and colleague. His analytical prowess and respect for evidence supported his many important contributions to public finance and tax policy,” said William B.P. Robson, CEO. “We will all miss his wisdom and friendship.”
Richard Bird was Professor Emeritus at Rotman School of Management and a Research Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute. He was also a long-standing member of the Institute’s Fiscal and Tax Policy Council.
Prof. Bird was also a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Municipal Governance and Finance, Munk School of Global Affairs; Distinguished Visiting Professor, Andrew Young School of Public Policy, Atlanta; and Adjunct Professor, Australian School of Taxation and Business Law, Sydney. He was also a member of the Advisory Group of the International Centre for Tax and Development at the Institute for Development Studies (UK).
