March. 3 – William Robson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the C.D. Howe Institute, today announced the appointment of a new member to the Institute’s prestigious Monetary Policy Council (MPC). He is Steve Ambler, an economics professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
“Steve Ambler is one of Canada’s leading authorities on monetary economics,” said Mr. Robson, who is the MPC’s non-voting chair. “His knowledge of policy and international orientation will make a vital contribution to the work of the Monetary Policy Council.”
Professor Ambler holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.
He replaces Michael Parkin, professor emeritus at the University of Western Ontario and a research fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, who has been a member of the MPC since its inception.
The Monetary Policy Council is comprised of 12 of Canada’s most distinguished financial-market and monetary economists. Chaired by the Institute’s President and Chief Executive Officer, William Robson, it provides the Bank of Canada, financial-market participants and economic policy commentators with a regular independent assessment of the monetary stance most appropriate for the Bank of Canada as it seeks to achieve its 2 percent inflation target.
